MANAGE FOOD WASTE DIRECTORY
On-site baling and crushing machines for cardboard, paper, plastics
and polystyrene recycling:
Introduction
A range of machines are available for crushing and baling materials
on-site for subsequent collection for recycling. These machines
come in many different configurations and sizes, and the same machine
can commonly be used for different materials (although only for
one material type at a time).
Such machines can reduce the amount of time and area required to
manage such loose materials in bins, skip or open piles.
As the density of the baled materials has been increased enormously,
a much larger quantity of recyclable material can be collected by
a single truck for transport to a centralised recycling facility-
significantly reducing collection costs. Where each material type
is separated at source and then crushed and baled, the value of
the material is significantly increased as the work that would normally
occur at a MRF to separate, compress and package the material has
already been done and the material is already ready for sale as
a commodity.
On site glass crushing machines
are different to general crushing machines and are specifically
designed to manage risks associated with shattering glass, these
machines are listed on a separate page on the Directory.
